problem with connection thru router

Yes I have been trying to get into games on the zone in X-
Wing Alliance but it seems i can't get a connection to
the games. I can get on the zone but when it comes to
the host launching the game...My game screen comes up and
it tries to connect but after a minute and a half it
times out. Everytime! I don't think it is my router
that is causing the problem cause i can play Star Wars
Galaxies, Jedi Academy, and America's Army online. I
just can't play X-Wing Alliance!
 
Each game uses different network code, so they will act different. Also
connecting to a server (Star Wars Galaxies) is much different than if you
are doing a direct IP connection. I would suggest trying different settings
on your router, such as firewall, UPnP etc.. and see if that helps. Also,
see if your ICF (xp's firewall) is on or off.
 
The built-in Windows XP firewall should be ON unless it is replaced with a
router/base station hardware firewall. No recommendation to turn off a
firewall is a good one, unless the firewall is a third-party software app
running in addition to either ICF or a router firewall.
