Here's the question:

Why can't a machine name be the same as a user logon name?
Also, if you do this, what problems can occur? Please
respond to the e-mail address posted as I'll never figure
out how to get back here!

Campbella,

I would assume that if you got here once and this is important to you that
you will get here again!

Having the same computer name as the user name is never a good idea. You
can have something similar, though. What I have done is to have the user
name with the OS. So, if my user name is 'cshultz' then the computer that I
am using would be called 'cshultz2000' or 'cshultzw2k'. However, that can
also be a problem as you are restricted to 15 characters.

I would suggest that you come up with a naming scheme that either follows
the port number ( so if the computer plugs into port 2-15A then the computer
account is something like 'ROA2-15A' where ROA would be the city code for
Roanoke -OR- you come up with some sort of naming convention according to
department, city, building number, floor number, room number so if someone
where in the West building on Floor 15 in Room 22 and she worked in the
Finance department in Roanoke the computer name would be something like
'ROA-FIN-W-15-22'.

HTH,

Cary
