AC 2007 sp2, vista basic sp2.

Sometime when I attempt to Compact and Repair my backend db access tells
me a problem has occurred and it actually renames my backend database with
and mdb extension?!

Why? Doesn't access 2007 know what file format I'm using?

I don't know the exact error message it's a pain trying to write these
things down.
One would think someone would come up with a way to copy and paste error
messages, but nooooo.

To catch the error message:
Press Alt + PrintScreen.
Open Word and hit Paste.
The msgbox with the error message will be pasted into the word doc.

How are you doing the compact and repair?
Are you going to access options and choosing compact, or are you using code?

I've always thought of using Alt+PrintScreen but seeing I don't have Word on
my system
I would need to paste it into Paint. Then in order to convey the error here
I would require an attachment.

I do it from the Office Button|Manage|Compact and Repair Database

I'm aware of most ways to recover from corruption.
Infact about a week ago I created a new db and impoted all the objects
and I did this with both my front end and back end dbs.
I'm wondering more about why, when Access 2007 has a problem
Compacting and Repairing a database, does it insist on renaming the db
with a mdb extension????
Is this normal?
What advantage to anyone or Access does this have??

James

Most likely the db that did this had become corrupted and that was what
caused the mdb extension.
Why it did the mdb extension is a mystery.

It hadn't happened in a while.. figures when I'm trying to reproduce it it
won't do it.
Next time I'll try to catch the error message.

Thanks,
James
