three weeks ago I bought a battery free mouse from A4Tech
(
www.a4tech.com).
Its name is NB-30D. The mouse was really fun under windows and
linux.
But now the mouse cursor does not move any longer.
I can still scroll, left/right click but I cannot move the mouse
pointer around. It is the same behavior under linux/windows.
So while the mouse doesn't have batteries (but does have capacitors),
you replace the rechargeable batteries in the mouse with a special RF
mouse pad that provides the power through inductance. The mouse pad
hooks up to the USB port instead of the mouse. If you lose the mouse
pad, the mouse becomes useless. You get a small mouse pad, smaller
than a normal mouse pad. Acceleration doesn't make up for
granularity. Compared to the size of the mouse, the RF pad seems way
too small. They have other models with a circular mouse pad. I've
yet to see a circular-shaped monitor.
Does a corded USB mouse work okay?
"Windows" is a family of operating systems. That doesn't say WHICH
version you are using and if a 32- or 64-bit version. Their site
lists the supported operating systems, and Windows Vista is not listed
as are no 64-bit versions listed.
Because this RF-induction mouse requires a functioning mouse pad,
maybe the pad is defective. What did A4Tech say when you called their
technical support (if they even provide a telephone number), sent them
an e-mail (if they provide an e-mail address), or after you used their
web form? Tell them you need an RMA number to return the product for
warranty replacement. If it is within the store's return period
policy, just take it back to the store and try a new one. They might
have a 30-day policy and you're within that period.
Have you tried uninstalling their software and seeing if the
Windows-included standard mouse driver works okay with this?
Presumably it should look like a USB-connected mouse. Tried a
different USB port yet?
Did you comply with their restrictions regarding the RF function of
the mouse pad?
1. Do not place the product too close to a CRT monitor. Keep a
distance of at least 20cm (that's almost 8 inches but only for a CRT).
2. Do not use the product on any metal table or surface.
