When I search using the address bar, Explorer never finds
anything. For example, if I enter "cheers" (the TV show),
IE looks for the following URL:

http:///? cheers

Obviously this does not exist. Hppefully someone has the
answer.

Go to Tools > Options > Advanced. Scroll down to Search. Check "Just go to
the mostly site". Click OK.

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

I do have an answer.. Faced the same problem..
Googled and found an answer in one of the discussion
boards!!

If you are getting a http:///??%searchterm error this can
help.

Regedit:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\URLS
earchHooks

you should have 2 listings
{default} and
{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}

There was an underscore in front of the second entry.
Close all IEs, Open registry and Remove the Underscore,
and there you go!
