Hi,

I had a problem with a server yesterday: it's dead!

This server was the only one on his domain and the backup was on the
disks which failed... I know! ;p

This domain had trust relationships with another domain...

I'd like to know if it's possible to restore the AD of the dead domain
from the trusted domain/server which is of course alive?

In other words, does the trusted domain has a copy of the AD of the
dead server/domain?

Thanks in advance for your help!
JC

Hello jc,

You need at least the system state backup from the crashed machine. The trust
to another domain is just for authentication, nothing will be replicated
which you can use for a restore.

Thank you for your answer!

So it means that without the first server or his backup I cannot
restore the AD...

Another idea to get a copy of my dead AD?

Thanks!

Hello jc,

If you have only this crashed machine without the possibility to access the
backup on the disk, no way. Or was the OS on a RAID with at least two disk's?
I think you also have not an additional domain controller?

Hey,

You're right I had 2 disks in mirroring but they're both dead (for
now) and no other DC so I think I have no solution...

Thank you again!
JC

Hello JC,
I would contact your hardware vendor. It would be odd that you lost both
disks in a mirror set.

Are you sure it's the disks that are dead? I had that with a customer -
but for them, the raid controller was damaged and needed a replacement..

cheers,

Florian

Hello jc,

As said from the other's, two disk's of a mirror at the same time broken
will be really seldom.
