I'm running XP Pro and have had no problems with my Radeon 9700 Pro.
My "Genuis" son decided to update the software to the latest Catylst
and drivers and now the graphics are slow as hell!!!

Any suggestions as to what my settings should be (I don't do gaming or
that kind of stuff)? I can't roll it back (Thanks, XP) -- is there
anywhere I can find the older version of the software, uninstall the
new stuff and reinstall the older software?

Thans a lot!!

Updating to the latest drivers alone should not have that effect. Anyway, do
a driver rollback (Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/Display
Adaptor) Double click on the 9700 Pro and click on the driver radio button.
Then click on Roll Back Driver. See if this resolves your issues before
doing a manual uninstall and reinstall.

He may have updated without uninstalling the older driver first.
First, uninstall everything via Add/Remove Programs.
Reboot, cancel any auto driver install offered by WinXP.
Then, run cat-uninstaller.exe, available here:

Reboot, again canceling any offer by WinXP to install drivers.
Finally, install the driver of your choice. You didn't mention which
version you were using originally, but here is a link to some previous
versions, going back to 6.6.

If you had some earlier version, it shouldn't be to hard to find it
somewhere online, or maybe your own hard drive. ATI puts unzipped
driver files into c:\ati\support\<version info>. Good luck.

Don't try to install older drivers just yet. Reinstall your motherboard
chipset drivers (especially the AGP GART driver) first.

Thanks KC! After *properly* uninstalling the newwer version and going
back to my previous version all is well.

Thanks to everyone for all the help - you guys ROCK!
