Hello,

I have added a second processor (exactly the same as the first one) on my hp
KAYAK XM600 (Bios V IC11.11), but now my windows 2000 Server SP4doesn't
boot.
It stop responding just when I can see the 'Windows boot logo' of windows
2000 Server

If I remove the second processor, everything is ok.
Have you got any idea of my problem please...

Regards,
Isabelle

This might help:
HOW TO: Add Support for Multiple Processors in Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;234558

and at the bottom is referenced:
How to Troubleshoot Windows 2000 HAL Issues
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/237556/EN-US/

Outside of the above advice what I would assume to do upon a failure to boot
includes going into Safe Mode. And according to the above there may be some
fiddling with the type of Hardware Abstraction Layer, and contacting the
maker of your motherboard/PC for instructions that may be specific to
Windows 2000 Server.

HTH.

Hello,

I have installed the second processor by using the different jumpers present
in the second processor (a soltek; the first one is a real intel).

They have the same caracteristics (P III 667/256/133/1.65V)

Now my computer boots but windows 2000 server only see one processor even if
I have changed the ACPI Monoprocessor to ACPI multiprocessor.

Can we see if both processors are visibles in the BIOS ?
Do I have to switch to MPS Multiprocessor?

But I wonder if they have the same code onboard, or will co-habit in the
same machine. Have you contacted both Soltek and Intel about this
possibility?

Have you booted into safe mode? Tried Add New Hardware? Is there a CD with
the new processor that one might use?

I would assume that if the option is present but disabled in BIOS try
enabling it and then boot again.

Well what's happened is that both processors are identicals. Intel P III
667/256 /... both) but one is on a soltek card but the other is in an Intel
one.

But I dont really understand because both are real PIII...

Moreover when I boot with both processors, I have a '_' in the top left of a
blackscreen just before I can see the Windows 2000 Server boot logo, and I
don't have that caracter when I boot with a single proc so it seems that
processors are "seen" by my motherboard :/

I dont know what can I do :/
