Problem when downloading from web

After reinstalling XP twice I get a problem I can't solve. When I download
information from the web (messenger for example) the download gets interupted
after I while.

I've installed all availible updates from windows and new drivers for the
network card. Also check with my internet provider and all works fine there.
The problem occurs both with IE and Firefox, so it can't be the browser.

What could the problem be? Is it hardware malfuncture in the network card?
Intel dosen't have any support on my network card, so I can't ask them.

what are you downloading - you say messenger but that could be
windows live messenger or a file transfer or something else?

how are you connected to the Internet? dial up? dsl? cable? plugged
into the broadband modem directly? using a router? which router?

wired? wireless?

drive". I formatted the C:\ partition and installed XP on it.

It was Windows Live Messenger I tried to download. But the problem occurs
when downloading VLC Media Player, Java environment etc.

I don't think there has been any problem downloading updates using Windows
Updates or when my anti virus program updates. Could it be a problem with the
protocol the browsers use?

I think I'm pluged in to a broadband modem directly. I recive Ip number
dynamicly and don't have to configurate the settings at all. It just works.

Please post the text output of ipconfig /all from a command prompt

start
programs
accessories
command prompt

ipconfig /all [enter]


click the icon on the menubar on the left and then edit, select all
(it will turn white)


click the icon in the menubar again then edit, copy


this copies to the clipboard.
paste into a reply

the only thing interesting is the one hour lease (but I don't know
if that is the norm for European ISP's - it's certainly short by US
standards but should not make a difference).

is your network card set to autosense the connection speed?
what is your download/upload speed supposed to be and do you see
things slow down before they stop?

is your hard drive near full? have you emptied temp files?

can you look in event viewer for anything that coincides with the
same time that the downloads stop?

Thanks for all your help. I'm at work now, but will look at your suggestions
when I get home.

One interesting this that happend yesterday is that I in the register set
the ftp passive mode prperty to "no" and I now seem to be able to download
via the ftp protocol . The http protocol still doesn't work though. Is there
some similar property for the http protocol like ftp passive mode?

Yes I am: Zone Alarm. But since the download starts and interupts after a
while I figured that it wasn't the firewall. Shouldn't it block the download
from the beginning then?
