I am having a bit of trouble using WPA-PSK on Windows XP (SP2). I am
quite able to set it up on the router but when I am in the Windows
properties box for the link the only authentication methods available
are 'open' and 'shared' (and the encryption available is 'disabled'
and 'WEP').

I did try typing the WPA passphrase into the network key box but it
wasn't having it (''...must be 10 or 26 characters...''etc.).

How can I set up/select WPA? - One I can do that I am sure all the
options etc. will be quite straightforward.

Many thanks

For you to be able to configure WPA, the wireless adapter needs to
support 802.11g otherwise it will be only able to do WEP.
Here is how to configure WPA..

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/bowman_03july28.mspx

look for.. Configure WPA-PSK on Windows XP

and the overview..

Make sure that your adapter supports wireless zero. Let us know how it
goes...

Thanks very much.

I had set the adaptor to use both b and g - so that was OK. And the
adaptor does support wireless zero.

Unfortunately it is when I try to configure the particular network in
Windows that I have a problem. It is not that I elect to use WPA and it
doesn't work - it is that the option does not appear in the list at all
- only 'open' and 'shared'.
