Is there a way to update without using IE? I have the
latest version of IE but 'Cannot find server' or 'Page
cannot be displayed' messages are the only things I get
when it starts. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling,
reconfiguring settings & just about anything else that's
been suggested...it just won't work! Does MS AntiSpy
recognize anything other than IE?

What do you need to update? Microsoft Antispyware doesn't use IE to update,
although it does check IE settings. You can successfully download Microsoft
Antispyware with Firefox, with or without the Genuine Windows validation
process.

If you mean updating your Windows Operating System files, yes, IE or
AutoUpdate is the way to get this done.

What version of Windows are you running, and what Service Pack level--see
properties of My Computer?

Thats something I think you would have to pray to see, since Microsoft is
planning on providing a all in one experience of updating there applications
with forth coming release of Microsoft Update, which just like Windows
Update will be utilizing Internet Explorer only.

I use Windows 2000, SP4. When I click File > Check for
updates, I get the message: 'Warning. Could not connect to
the internet' when I AM connected! Doesn't that indicate
that it automatically goes to IE for updates? As I
mentioned, I cannot get IE to work. If that's not an
issue, all the better...I'll leave it alone. I just
thought that every antispy application had to update their
definitions sooner or later. The beta is good until July,
correct? So, shouldn't there be updates in the meantime?

Thanks,
Debi

Debi - check whether your IE connection is set to "automatically detect
settings"--this may take care of the problem.
