Problem transferring contacts from old computer

I am running Outlook on a Win2000 system and I have a large Contact list on
it that I want to copy to a new WinXP system.

What I have done is this. I located the Archive, Backup and Outlook pst
files on the old system and copied them to a Zip disk. I took the disk to
the new system and I just can't seem to get my Outlook in the WinXP to load
the old Contact file. I want to merge my old Contacts list with my new
Contacts list but I don't want to change my new Calendar on the XP machine.

How is this done?

State what you tried and what happened.
Did you move the files to a hard drive and remove their Read only attribute?

On my new system I opened up Outlook and then I tried the (File/Open/Outlook
Data File) with no luck. I tried (File/open/selected items) no luck. Tried
(File/Import and Export/Import from another program or file, selected the
..pst files, used the browser to locate the Outlook file on the zip disk) and
I get an error telling me that the .pst file isn't a .pst file. It does the
same thing with the Archive and the Backup .pst files.

I saw on a previous post you said to do the following: File>New>Outlook
Data to create a pst file. I haven't done this because the pst files are
already present. Do I need to do the above?

Please answer my second question.
You need only use File > Open > Outlook Data File to access these files, as
long as you've moved them to your hard drive and removed their read only
attribute.

Russ the Archive was checked but not the Read.

I also did the File>New>Outlook and it saved the file as "Personal
Folder.pst" on my zip disk.

I brought the disk to my new Win2000 system with Outlook2002 and did the
File>Open>Outlook Data File to the files on the zip disk. Should I copy the
file to my HD first? If so where do I need to copy it too?

In Outlook I opened up my Folder window. There are two Archive folders,
one Outlook Today folder, and four Personal folders.

If I click on some of the Archive or Personal folders I get a window saying
"Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Outlook could not access the
specified folder location. Errors have been detected in the file
D:\Outlook\archive.pst. Quit all mail-enabled applications, and then use the
Inbox Repair Tool."

I don't know where the Inbox Repair Tool is located if I need to use it.

PS Thanks for the help!

You mean you exported a PST file directly onto the storage medium? If so,
you have a corrupt file you can't repair.
To back up a PST file you must create it in a location on your hard drive,
quite Outlook, then use Windows Explorer to copy it onto your storage
medium.

This file is smaller than the Archive.pst file. Is the Personal Folder.pst

I don't understand how you arrived at this state and why you have so many
Personal Folders in this profile.
If the file from your Zip disk does not contain your data, then you created
it incorrectly, which is easy to do when you export.
You can try using the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) to see if it has error
you can fix, but its size does not make me optimistic.
Do you still have access to the original PST file?

correctly:
