Gil, also please check your time setting as well as your time zone setting
on your computer. You are posting as a US Mountain time zone (-7:00) but I
show you posted at 9:54 PM on 8/12/03. It won't be that time here for
another 5 hours and I am two time zones ahead of you.

hi,
I am using win XP pro.
I am using a ADSL connection to connect to the internet.
One day my internet connection dissapeared and now, I CAN NOT create a new
network connection.
I go to the : Create new network connection wizhard . Then I have 2
options:
A. Connect to VPN at my workspace. (if i select this option then I have a
new screen on the wizhard that has 2 options that BOTH are DISABLED . so i
can NOT do nothing here.
B. Connect to the internet. - I choose next and then I choose the option to
set up the acount manually. Then I press next , and there are now 3 options:
The first two options are DISABLED.
The third option is: Connect using a boradband connection that is alyaws
on. - It is ENABLD. But when i choose this option the wizhard DID NOT create
any new connection.
SO HOW CAN I CREATE A NEW CONNNECTION ?????????????
I know that there is a MS KB article that solve tis issue, but i did not
find it.
Help ??????
thanks a lot.
GIL.

The connection is created automatically when
a device driver loads that reports it is network-capable.
You can't create it yourself. (There also is a service that
needs to start in order for network connections
to appear so you might check services and the
event log.)

The first thing to check if you are having these
kinds of difficulties this week is to see if the Blaster
worm has infected your system. It can cause all sorts
of bizarre problems, including the one you're reporting.

Make sure the ADSL device or adapter is functioning,
the driver is loading and so forth. If it is a device
you can move (USB, PCI, etc.), then try it in a different
slot or socket -- this will auto-create a new connection.

Same problem - Got it fixed

Had the same problem after uninstalling Symantec Anti Virus. The problem was with the registry entries. Somehow Symantec messed it all up:

This is what I did, after some googling:
1. Regedit
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP
3. Delete 25, 26, and 13 entries
4. Restart system.
