Problem storing email passwords in Outlook 2002 & Vista

Since upgrading to Vista, I reinstalled Outlook 2002 and setup all my email
accounts and then imported my settings and .pst files from my previous
version of XP.

All my email accounts are working and the account settings panel in Outlook
displays the username and stored password for each account.

However, every time I open Outlook and press the send/recieve button, it
asks me for my password for each of the POP3 servers.

It never asked me to do this when running it under XP, the remember password
box is ticked but it does not seem to make any difference, it still asks for
the passwords evey time.

Any ideas what the problem may be?

Hello,

this error is "normal" with Outlook 2002 on Windows Vista.
Outlook 2002 uses the "Protected Storage Interface"
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290684/en-us) to store its passwords, but
this is not supported in Windows Vista anymore.

There is no patch or fix, because Outlook 2002 is not officially supported
on Windows Vista.

"NORMAL ? Normal!!" Our family bought 'Office XP' just over 3 or 4 years
ago, and as far as I know XP was the last operating system from M$oft!!!

Now, if it was OFFICE 98 or OFFICE ME I'd understand...............
obviously M$oft want to sell more OFFICE programs AND you have to buy the
most expensive suite as the "home" one does NOT have OUTLOOK?

In VISTA - WORD works, EXCEL works, OUTLOOK works but just does not remember
passwords !! "Security problems", they say, well I've had none so far in the
past years with Office 2000 OR OfficeXP!! I'm sick of spending more and more
for a simple need - I'm looking elswhere for something simpler.

So, its either another >$300 to buy the new "OFFICE 2007" for a need to
remember passwords, or ditch Vista - this is the worst decision I have made,
asking for our new family computer to be Vista not XP!! .... and that was
extra $$$ to boot!!!

Between us all in our family we have 6 email accounts - MICRO$OFT YOU'VE GOT
TO BE JOKING!
