I have a buddy that loaded Linux on his notebook, now the computer will not start up and displays an error message of "GRUB". We have tried everything as far as recovery disks and start-up tricks. He is running xp on a Toshiba notebook.

Hi TerranAcrux,

Using the Recovery Console in the Windows XP installation CD, press R
to get there, select the Windows installation to repair, (usually 1),
enter the Administrator password used in installation, (if no password
was used, just press enter).

Once the prompt appears, type fixmbr

This should repair the boot record and Windows should load as before.

Good luck, hope this helps.
