Problem shutting off Wester Digital unit

Model WD1200U017-005
Often when I click on "Safely Remove.." I'll see the
"Can't end ... now." Almost certainly this lets me
know the computer/Win XP Home, will crash. Been to
the shop but can't find anything wrong, the unit is
only half full. Bet you guys can! ;-)

Does it crash because you disconnect
the drive even though you get "Can't end ,,," warning?

Possible causes:
1) Windows Explorer is open.
2) AV Software scanning the WD1200U017-005 drive.

Thanks JS,
Haven't tried disconnecting without getting
"permission" first.

Never use Explorer unless really necessary, but it is
on the computer.
AVG shows last scan at 2:15 this morning, this failure
took place at about 1300 today.
That's a good idea though, I'll remember t check next
time.
