i have been having the strangest problem and maybe it is stupid and i
am overlooking something but if someone could help that would be
great.

I am connected to a LAN here at school and i am trying to share a
folder, now i have already enable Microsoft File and Print sharing and
i have all the networking neccesities done, i am able to see the
network and connect to other Pc's on the network, but when i go to
share the folder and i go to set the permissions, i go to add just one
or two users from my workgroup and my computer is not recognizing the
rest of the workgroup or workgroups that are on the LAN. My computer
only sees itself and therefore makes sharing impossible, i am hoping
that someone else out there has had the same problem and knows how to
fix it i have been trying to fix it myself now for 3 days, and
everywhere i look to find any other form of troubleshooting for this
problem i can never find anyone with the same problem. should i just
re-install 2000 and see if that fixes it, or does anyone else have any
ideas??

Since you are not in a domain, you can only add local users and groups that
are on your computer to share permissions. You can use Computer
Management/local users and groups to view those users and groups on your
computer and you can add more users if need be. --- Steve

This is expected behaviour, and is by design. You cannot browse the SAM
(security accounts manager) database (this is what holds local security
accounts) of another computer.

If you want to restrict who has access to the shares on your computer,
you will need to create local user accounts for those users, and let
those users know what the password is on the account(s).

There is nothing to fix.
