I just wanted to post a thought...
I started using newsgroups to post my questions when I was trying to move
from Banyan to Microsoft in 98. I'd answer questions or post them with
the intent of "putting myself out there" like you have to when a system
fails. Sometimes I read questions which made me say "did that guy read
anything?" but now I understand.

We all have strengths and weaknesses based on the set of problems our
particular environment generate. I remember once I told a department head
"we learn more when things go wrong than when things go right" and he
replied "we cant learn that way". Well, what other way is there...the
answer is newsgroups.

I cant count the number of times I've looked like Mr. Wizard to a jr admin
just because I read a thread about a problem I had NEVER encountered. But
to make sure I don't get a case of the big head AND that I keep my
communication skills sharp - I post questions and give answers here so
someone can point out one of my weaknesses or misunderstanding before I jump
into the fray at work and down a whole system.

Just a note and I'd like to know what you guys think!

There's no question that there is a wealth of knowledge to be garnered from
the posts in these groups. A great deal of what I put back into these groups
in the form of replies is a compilation of what I leaned by reading here as
well.
