Running IE.6 and Windows Me and suddenly cannot send most photos as email
attachments. The files attach ok but when attempting to send the bar chart
runs almost to the end and then disconnects connection every time. Have
managed to send small size non-digital picture, but others including ones I
have sent before will not go. Have not changed any settings that I know and
have no new software. Also have good Antivirus and Spyware protection and
system looks clean.
Can anyone suggest how to overcome problem please.

Disable email scanning (outgoing & incoming) by your anti-virus application.
It provides no additional protection, it may be causing the problem and,
like most other AV makers, even Symantec says it's not necessary:

Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

Ok I will have a look to see if email scanning can be disabled seperately, I
am not running Norton that you discuss but have Trend PC-Cillin which I
update daily and which I think is better. However, I have been running this
antivirus for a number of years so cannot think why this would suddenly
restrict photo attachments that I sent a couple of months ago without
problems.
Just out of interest, I have also noticed that when online, I have recently
started getting a number of pictures and graphics not displayed, but get the
empty box with a red X in it. I can't help wondering whether there is any
connection?

I have been able to disable outgoing email scanning, however this is making
no difference. I have now tried numerous attempts at sending photo
attachments and found out a little more. Whilst attempting to send the
message with attachment it is disconnecting after varying time spans. This
happened after 50 seconds and ranging up to 7 mins, on just one occasion it
did actually complete the send (1.1 Mb). Attempts were made using photo
files such as 0.8 Mb, 1.5 Mb and zipped at around 1.1 Mb .
This may explain why I had previously managed to send small non-digital
photos, as they would have gone quite quickly before disconnect occured. So
it appears that
the files are OK but something is causing disconnection.
Any thoughts on what else to look at ?
