I can receive emails, but get the following error when trying to send emails:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject '<Email Subject>',
Account: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Server: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Protocol: SMTP,
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): no, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I normally send and receive emails all the time using Windows Mail and don't
remember ever receiving this message before. I last sent emails successfully
yesterday. I have not changed anything on my computer lately. I'm not sure
what is causing this problem. Please help.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant
layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving,
and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting
changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your
up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For
more, see:

Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the
program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the
option arises.

Thanks for the help.

However, while waiting for a response to this problem, I called my DSL/ISP
(ATT) and was told that I needed to change my email acount info (servers,
ports, etc...). I deleted my old account and created a new one as instructed
by the support person, and the problem ceased. I can't believe ATT did not
inform of the changes I needed to make before the problem began. Anyway, my
issue has been resolved, and it was not a Windows Mail issue at all.

Thanks for reporting back.
AT&T has migrated all the old Bellsouth users to the newer AT&T/Yahoo
mail platform.
