Problem scanning with Epson RX500

My Epson RX500 3 in 1 scanner/printer is giving me bad results. The
specifications
claim I can either get a 8.5 X 11 LTR scan or a 8.5 X 11.7 A4 scan.
Both of these
formats chop off the bottom 1/2 inch of a 11 inch long document. I
generally use the
Epson Smart Panel copy facility, and all of their selectable formats
fail to do the job.
At the suggestion of Epson technical support, I downloaded and ran a
freeware program
from nico, which had the same result as the Epson. I know the scanner
is capable of
covering the entire 11 length because I can scan the full 11 inch
document to a bit map
file, which upon later printing will show the entire length. I would
like to be able to
do my scan and print without having to first save the document and later
print it out.
This entire concept of LTR and A4 is somewhat mysterious to me, and is
not well
explained in the Epson manuals. Epson technical support has been less
than helpful.

Read in your HTML help.

See Advanced Scanning With EPSON Scan. It is on the below page about 1/3 of
the way down.

See Adjusting the Scan area. It is about 2/3 the way down this page.

Yes, I saw that previously and it won't help me with this problem. The
adjustment they refer
to is changing the size and defining the borders of the scan AFTER it has been
scanned in.
If the bottom of the page was not in the original scan, you cannot restore it by
this method.

Not true.

Those are adjustments that you do on the preview BEFORE you do the final
scan.
You do make a preview first then apply the adjustments, then the final scan
with be made with the setting as defined in the preview.

You are talking about scanning to a file. I really don't have to make any
adjustments
if I do that since the scanner will capture an entire LTR 8x11 document. What I am
trying to get to work is a simple scan and print without the intervening file save.
I don't
want the extra bother of saving and then deleting the image, just to print it out.
I'm
trying to get this to work with the 'COPY' option.

Read your help.
This is the user guide in PDF form. Download and refer to this document. You
may have this pdf on your CD or it is installed on your computer when you
install the RX500.
http://files.support.epson.com/pdf/rx500_/rx500_u1.pdf

On page 19 of the above pdf, Copying Without a Computer. It tells you to
leave 1/10 inch on the side and top at the arrow to get the whole document.

On page 24 of the above pdf, Changing the Copy layout.

On page 27 Adjusting the Copy Size Manually.
Also, on page 27 Restoring Default Settings.

Starting on page 28 instructions on copying with a Computer.

I know you are trying to help, and I appreciate the effort. However, I am
looking at
a specific mode of the 'Smart Panel' software program that just copies
documents.
I have read the instructions and tried all the possible settings I can think
of and nothing
gives me a full 8 x 11 copy of a document, unless I first copy it to a file.

I don't know if you own an RX500, but if you do, I suggest you try it out for
yourself.
My guess is that it wont work for you either.

I do not own a RX500, I am just reading the manual and have no idea of what
you are actually doing.

I do know that there are other methods than using Smart Panel.
It seems to me that if one method is not working for you, then you would try
to find a method that does work for you.

Good luck to you.

The RX500 is a perfectly capable all-in-one unit. It should not have any
problem scanning then printing a 8 1/2" x 11" document.

All scanners have a small area on the edges of the scanning bed that produce
no data. It is just the nature of the beast.

Epson has stated in their documentation that the RX500 has a 0.1" dead area
on the top and side.

Who in their right mind would print a document right to the edge of the
paper.
Borderless photographs are printed to the edge, then masked by the picture
frame.
