Problem(s) with Creative Radeon 9800 XT

A few days ago I got me the Creative Radeon 9800 XT. For the most part it
seems to work fine, but there are a few things that keep bugging me.

- I don't see any video splash screen when booting up. Usually it's the
first thing that shows up on screen, right? Instead, the screen stays black
until the mobo's splash screen appears. Maybe it's nothing, but it has me
worried nonetheless.

- I have the game "Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic" installed, and
have noticed various problems, such as missing graphics, a messed up (not to
mention blurry) game menu (stripes showing up near words) and even the game
crashing. (Now this game is known to have "issues" with Radeon cards, so it
might not be the card at fault here...)

- I tried the Neocron offline demo, and while it seemed to run fine, when I
exited the screen went (and stayed) black; I had to press the reboot button
to go on.

OTOH, I have run the DirectX diagnostic app, and used a benchmarking program
to test the video adapter, all (seemingly) without any problems. Also, a few
other games such as Etherlords II and Homeworld 2 seem to run OK as well.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or tips. Also, I was wondering: is
there such a thing as a Radeon diagnostic utility out there?

All feedback is most appreciated.

Radeon cards don't have the BIOS splash screen on bootup. If you're a long
time Nvidia card user, it takes a little getting used to, but that's life.
You issues with KOTOR are likely driver related....try a different version
or rollback to see if it's an ongoing thing.

I see. I didn't know that. (And yes, I am used to nvidia cards.) Thanks for
telling me!

I will try that. I checked with a forum on the Bioware site (makers of
KOTOR); I'm not alone in this, so it seems to be a driver issue, indeed.

Thanks for your help!

Oh, BTW, the Radeon 9800 XT has 256 Mb of RAM. Is it a good idea to set the
aperture size to 256, or ...?

You can pretty much set it to any value you want. For most games, it won't
make a damn difference as long as the aperture is larger than 32 MB.

OK. Well, I set it to 256 Mb and all seems to work fine (for now?). Thanks
for your reply!
