I am running xp home and have avg installed.

I am having problems getting some programs to run on laptop, they will install ok but as said they wont run, then an error report window appears,
Also on control panel when i click on security center it doesnt open and a dll window opens saying an exception occurred whilst trying to run, could this be something to do with programs not running, i have installed EXE file association fix from Doug's windows but still no luck,
Any help on this would be appreciated thanks guys

What is the exact error that you are getting? What are the programs that you are having problems with?

BTW Welcome to PC Review,

im trying to run picoscope for occiloscope also tryd autodata etc,the error i get ismodname gdiplus.dll modver5.13102.3352 modstamp4804ebcb
fbug:0 offset 0002ddbc
then check contents and shows system info as windows NT5.1 build 2600
is this ok as i have xp i know laptop was from china or there bouts
also shows cpu version 000000696 cpu feature code a7e9f9bf

when i try to open security center it shows
An exception occurred while trying to run "C:windows system32shell32.dll,control_runDLL"windows system 32 wscui.cpl",security center

hope any of this helps as dont make sense to me thanks

you may have a corupted wscui.cpl file

what happens if you "run" wscui.cpl from the command line ... I would expect an error if file is corrupted.

if that happens try ...

Go to Start / Run and type in "sfc /scannow"

without the quotes ... you will be asked for your XP CD.

yes typed in wscui.cpl on run and came up with rundll
an exeption occurred while trying to run shel32dll control_rundll c:windows system32 wscui.cpl
i tryd the
Go to Start / Run and type in "sfc /scannow"
but it didnt do anything, i havent got a copy of xp on disc as this was pre-installed, i have windows xp on a desktop am i able to transfer certain files onto flash and install into this one. thanks for the help guys

went to command prompt in accessories and typed sfc/scannow

then after a scan it came up with files that are required for windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL cache.

Does this mean i have to get myself an xp disk and reinstall .

Borrow the CD off a friend ... no reinstall is needed.

;)

got a copy of xp retail ran sfc/scannow in command prompt

run to end but hasnt made any difference to security center and still cant get certain software to run,is it because software needs to be security certified.

Reboot your comp with the XP CD in your CD/DVD drive and select to do a Repair Install....See what happens after you have done that...

tryd that and asks me for administrator password that dont have as bought laptop pre-installed with software in it, not having anyluck here

This usally happens when you use the recovery Console, not the repair utitly. When it asks you if you would like to repair with the recovery console. Press enter to contuine setting up windows Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair.

Hope this helps

Have you tried just leaving the password blank...?? There are ways around the password, but as its a very gray area I doubt anybody on here would be able to help you on that one....If all else fails, i'd back everytihing up and do a fresh install..Pain in the ar*e I know..
