Problem running IL2FB AEP after SP2 Install

Don Burnette

Since installing SP2 for Windows XP, I can no longer run IL2FB with the Ace
Expansion Pack.

When I try to launch, I get the following error message:

" The application failed to initialize properly (0c0000142). Click OK to
terminate application."

Prior to installing SP2, it worked fine, although I had to sign on under the
default administrator account in XP Pro to get it to install, otherwise I
got a 1607 runtime error.

After installing SP2 today, I get the above message when I try to run the
game. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and it is still doing it.
I also still have to install it under the default administrator account or I
get the same 1607 runtime error.

Anyone else run across this, or have any advice?

Thanks,

Hi Don,

Let's try some basic troubleshooting. If the problem still persists
please post back and we'll try some more steps. Good luck! :-)

1. To see if it's a software conflict: Temporarily disable Startup
programs one at a time, starting with Firewall, Antivirus, and ad
blockers using: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php

You can lookup what a program does before you disable it here:
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

2. Run a virus scan at: http://housecall.antivirus.com Afterwards
Download & Run Spybot from: http://security.kolla.de to find any
Trojans, Adware, or Spyware which could clog up your system.

3. Click My Computer / Rightclick the Drive & Choose Properties
/ Run the "Disk Cleanup..." / Next Click the "Tools" Tab and run
the "Error-Checking" and "Defragmentation" utilities.

4. Go to the Windows Update site for everything under Critical and
Recommended: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com Some games
require a patch: http://www.avault.com/pcrl/patches_list.asp?letter=a

5. Update DirectX and your Chipset, Sound, &Video Drivers:
For all Video / DirectX / Game and Hardware Issues, I have a
Checklist of Solutions at: http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/Video.html

Thanks Jimmy,

I have tried all this, still no go. SP2 installed fine and my system even
seems a little more robust - however IL2 Forgotten Battles with the Ace
Expansion Pack, will no longer run for me. Wierd. So far, it is the only
program I have that will not run.
I am anxious to hear if others run into this problem and what perhaps a
workaround might be,

Hi Don,

I've heard of others solving XP 2 gaming issues by updating
their BIOS or making adjustments to it such as aperture size.
