I have this managed switch that cant do routing. There are 2
VLANS/class C subnets and I want one to use the internet gateway in
the other subnet.

I have drawn a diagram of how things are connected to the best of my
ability.

Switch

192.168.2.0 PCs VLAN1 VLAN2-----192.168.3.0 PCs-----WWW Gateway

192.168.2.250----Server----192.168.3.206

The server has 2 NICs one with an address on each subnet, and is
connected to both VLANS.

I need PCs in 192.168.2.0 to use the internet with the gateway in
192.168.3.0 (192.168.3.245)

I have turned on routing but I have some doubts. After having tried
and erred I am more confused now, and the MS KB178993 didnt describe a
similar enough scenario.

1. What gateway do I put into the TCP/IP properties of the PCs on
either subnet.
2. What static routes do I need to configure for all requests that
need to go to the internet get 'forwarded' by the server to the
internet gateway?

Right now the server can ping stuff on either side but thats it. While
I was fiddling with the settings I got machines to ping others on the
other side, but cant even do that now.

1. All PCs must use the Router/Server as the Default Gateway.
2. The Router/Server uses the WWW Gateway as its Default
Gateway,...*assuming* that this "www gateway" is a NAT Device and not a
Proxy.
3. The WWW Gateway uses the ISP as the Default Gateway *and* must have a
"static route" configured on it that uses the Router/Server as the path to
the 192.168.2.0 subnet. It already knows where the 192.168.3.0 subnet is so
no static route is needed for that one.

Verify your Router/Server configuration using this article: (2000 or 2003)

Simply have the default gateway of the .2.0 set to the server
192.168.2.250 and in the gateway (NAT Router ?) a static route needs to
be added for the .2.x subnet with the gateway being the server,
192.168.3.206. Not sure what kind of gateway it is but, it may or may not
have this capability. I've got an older D-Link that while it allows port
maps, it doesn't have an option to route packets as a router would, like
a Cisco or Cabletron.
