Hi,

We have 25 computers. 3 of them is still using win2000, the rest is XP.
I use WSUS for updating them.

Ever since a few weeks back the 2000 machines are having trouble to
restart efter Window updates.

The machines are scheduled to popup a reboot message after installation.
If the user clicks reboot now it just hangs with the picture "windows is
shutting down" and nothing happens. My clients have been waiting over 1
hour for it to restart, but it doesn't.

This worked before, but not anymore.

Does anyone know why this happen, and what i can do about it?

Thanks

/ Martin

Sounds like the machines are having a hard time unloading user profiles,
known to happen after installing certain updates. Look in the event
logs and see if Userenv, event id 1000 are recorded. If so try this:

User Profile Hive Cleanup Service

If the event id doesn't correspond post any error message here and
someone should be able to help.

Hi John, this seems to be the case. A userenv error is recorded in the
eventlog.

Would it be a good idea to push this update to all machines through my
GPO, or just the machines with this problem? I've noticed the same error
on some XP-machines too, but they seem to manage to restart by them self.

Thank you

I'm really not sure about that... Maybe you could try using the "Shared
Computer Toolkit". I don't know if uphclean needs to run locally or if
it can be pushed or initiated remotely. One of the MVP's or network
professional will have to help you with that.
