I created a horizontal line across the bottom of the Master Layout that I
want to modify, but I cannot highlight it to edit its shape, size or color.
In other words, it is permanent in the document. Any suggestions appreciated.

You need to go back to Slide Master view and modify the slide master the line's
on. Choose View, Master, Slide Master. If there's only one master, the line
should be on it and you should be able to click to select it.

If there are multiple masters, click each on the left until you find the one
with the line.

Thanks so much for you help. I had to go thru several masters to find the one
with the line/graphic that could be edited.

I wonder if I originally created the line in an "offbeat" way that limited
the "edit" function to only one of the Master slides?

If not, then I suggest that it would be more user friendly for the program
to allow you to edit the line on any master, since this line/graphic appears
in all master slides.

Thanks again.

If you'd first chosen View, Master, Slide Master or inadvertently clicked the Normal
View icon at bottom left while holding down Shift, that'd explain it.

Which version of PPT do you use?
