Problem regarding sender properties and contacts in rules

This one has me stumped.

TIA to anybody who can help.

I normally copy my .pst folders to CD regularly, in case my computer
fails. I got several viruses last weekend, so I reformatted my hard
drive. (Should have done a Restore.)

Anyhow, I reinstalled OL2003, and replaced the newly created .pst file
with my backup copies. Now, when I am creating a rule, and I click on
the sender's display name (to go to the display name properties and
get the email address), Outlook tells me that it can't find the
Contacts folder.

Can anybody tell me why this is happening, and how to fix the problem?

As I said, TIA.

Sure. You didn't configure Outlook to use your old PST file correctly
What did you do instead? If you just overwrote your PST file, you corrupted
your profile.
Create a new profile and configure it to use your previous PST file
correctly:

Dear Russ,

Thanks for spending time on my question. Unfortunately, my first post
did not fully explain everything. I said:

"Anyhow, I reinstalled OL2003, and replaced the newly created .pst
file with my backup copies."

What I "should" have said is:

"replaced the newly created .pst file with my backup copies, by
removing the new .pst files that had no data in them, and inserting
the old .pst files that contained my email, contacts, etc..."

I should have also explained that I can get to all of the information
that was in my old "Contacts" folder in Outlook by clicking "Contacts"
in the Navigation Pane of Outlook. The only time that I encounter this
problem is when I'm creating a rule in the Rules Wizard. If I'm
creating a rule, and I have a message open, Outlook will default to
creating that rule with information in a template. The rule proposed
by Outlook will be prepopulated with information that corresponds to
the message that I have open. If I right-click the sender's display
name, the sender's properties should show up. Currently, I get a
warning message from Outlook. If I close everything out to the opening
Outlook page, click "Contacts" in the Navigation Pane, then click the
contact's name, I can get the properties. Still, I'd like to do things
the old way.

Can I/Should I still follow your advice? The .pst files that were
created when I reinstalled Outlook are gone. If I create a new profile
now, and configure it according to the requirements of the Microsoft
page you referenced, will this solve my problem? Is there a
possibility that I will have to reinstall Outlook again?

(BTW, I imaged my HDD, so this won't happen again.)

Thanks
