Usually, this is an indication that the printer driver is a bare bones
driver (likely included with windows) obsolete, or not installed properly.
I'd first look for an updated driver, uninstall the old driver, and install
the newer version. There is also a possibility that the application for
whatever reason, cannot talk to the printing system properly. Usually this
occurs with obsolete versions of the application software.
