Problem playing DVD's

Media center 2005 installed..

First when i tried to play a dvd i kept getting a codec error in both
media center and media player. I found a post that said to install
mpeg2 codec ( cant remember the actual name ) and i did so. Now the
DVD plays but it just shows a black screen and the audio plays
perfectly.

How can i fix this?

download and install, you should be all set.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic.htm save and run it
from your desktop it does not do an install per say.
then install this
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/XP_Codec_Pack.htm

while your at the website you may want to bookmark it, it is a nice site..

is there a way I can get it to work with media center and the newest
version of media player? Everything used to work until a recent re
install of windows...

If it's a codec problem then get the worlds best codec pack, which will also search for
