Problem pinging other computers

I have a small win2000 network(5 computers). I recently added 1 win2000 and 1
winxp computer. They can see all the other computers and the other computers
can see them. The new comps cannot ping any other computers and the other
computers cannot ping them. The odd thing is that the 2 new computers can
ping each other no problem. I forced a dhcp node of hybrid in registry. Still
no help. I'm at wits end. Any suggestions? Let me know if you need more info.

I tried both and neither work. Both work on the two pcs that can ping.

thanks

Via Hub (possibly faulty)
Cable from Hub to Hub faulty
Wrongly or badly wired Cable

Please give info on setup

I have swapped around all cables and switched hubs to no avail. The setup is
all computers are connected to the same switch. When I tried putting the
computers as close to each other as possible(i.e. 4ft cat 5 cables to switch)
the problem is the same. My first thought was hardware also but some
computers can ping and others can't regardless of hardware.

thanks

Give us an "ipconfig /all" of the new, and pre-existing, computers.

It's true that ping is the only thing that is recognizably not working(i.e.
all computers can access each others hard drives and see each other). The
main concern for all this is being able to talk to a database. Whatever is
causing the ping to not work is also preventing access to the database. There
is no firewall set up. This network is closed to the outside world. I will
not be able to do ipconfig until Monday morning as I am not at work this
weekend(physically).

Thanks for all your replies,
Mark

Sorry for the delay. I have been getting a service temporary unavailable from
microsoft newsgroups all week. Anyway here are the ipconfig /all for all the
comps. I hope this sheds the light on the problem.

comp1(holds the database and can ping comps 2, 3 and 4)

C:\WINNT\system32>ipconfig /all

Let me know if you need more info. Thank you for your help with this.

:)
finally I had time to read this .. and it's pretty obvious that newly added
computers are in different subnets:
You have a network mask 255.255.255.248, that specifies a subnet with 6
hosts. The newly added computers are outside the subnet 192.168.13.0 -
192.168.13.7 (first and last IPs are network&broadcast).

Why don't you use a class C subnet mask like 255.255.255.0 ?
If you need to calculate a subnet check: http://www.subnet-calculator.com/
