Hello:

I would like to password-protect some of my webpages but I'm having extreme
difficulty. I created a website and published it, OK. The instructions in
FrontPage 2000 and on the Microsoft aren't helpful.
I read the article on the MS website
'http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=301554' and I know my web
host supports subwebs and unique permissions under the FP Server
ExtensionsFrontPage extensions.

In the article my FrontPage never asks me for a name and password. Its just
there. Then when I go to Security in the Tools menu it is STILL grayed out.
Do you know what I am doing wrong?

Thanks, Rich

Are you sure you're opening your Web by specifying its
http:// address, and not by specifying a drive and folder
name? You must open the http:// address in order for the
Security command to be available.

If that does't resolve the problem, then post again to
this thread, stating what OS your host is running and what
version of the server extensions.

Rich,
Even though a host may support subwebs with unique permissions, they
may not have given you the rights. Your user account must be an
administrator for the web in order to set permissions. Sometimes they just
fcreate accounts as an author instead, which will have the security menu
item greyed out. I know this one sounds stupid, but people have done it
before, after you publish, use File | Open Web and enter the URL that you
usually publish to in order to open your web to set security. A lot of
people still try to publish their web, then open the same local version they
had used to set security instead of the newly published one on the server.

Hope this helps,
