Just installed Windows XP

Went to re-install Front Page 2000 Upgrade

Authorized using CD of FP 97

During 2000 installation, error message at end saying" Cannot connect to
Personal Web Server Administration"

FP 2000 will not open my online webs. Error message "Folder not accessible
or is password protected."

Installing only FP 98 allows me to open the webs

FP 2000 will allow me to open specific files on the web site, edit them, and
save them, but can't open the web itself.

Was this install of XP an upgrade to an earlier version of windows??

Technically, yes. However the previous version of Windows was erased
beforehand.

Some how, the Personal Web Server has been installed, and it's not supported by XP.
You need to totally uninstall FrontPage and restart the machine.

Then do not install FP 97 or 98 but just run the upgrade and point the upgrade to whichever disk is
a Full install version when the upgrade asks for the qualifying version.

The FP 97 web server is built into FP 97, so it's a booger bear.

Tried that already, but no go. Perhaps a copy of PWS is still lurking in a
different folder than where Frontpage was installed?

Open a command window and copy and paste the following into it and press enter:

SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1

When it is done, open Device Manager, click View and then click Show Hidden Devices.

Click the plus by Non-Plug and Play Drivers.

In the list that expands below Non-Plug and Play Drivers, check the for one named PWS ( not sure of
the exact name ) you will have to right click each and select properties and read the details.

When you find the correct one, uninstall it and then restart the computer.
