Have a dual boot Win. ME (Fat 32)and Win. XP Pro. (NTFS)Like to use Arc Soft
Photo Studio 2000 on ME to edit my photos, but when I drag & drop a tif photo
from XP to Me, Photo Studio won't open it. Tells me "this format invalid or
unsupported." Get the same message if I put the tif on a floppy and move it
to ME.
Photo Studio works perfect if I scan tif directly to ME. Works ok if I
e-mail the tif from XP to Me.

Can any one tell me what's going wrong, why won't a tif thats ok on XP move
to ME and work?

Hello,

I'm not sure what the problem is. Can you open that TIF with any other
software on your Windows Millenium system, like something that comes with
Windows? Can you take a DOC or a BMP off that XP system and open it using
any software on your Millenium system? Is this an NTFS compressed volume?

I didn't see any mention of this problem on the ArcSoft website.

Thanks,
Gregg Rivers [MSFT]

Thank you Gregg for your reply,

These TIF photos are not compressed in XP as far as I know, I scan all
my photos TIF using the Scanner & Camera Wizard on XP, then use the
Microsoft Office Picture Manager to crop & auto correct. If they need more
work, I want to drag & drop them to ME to use my ArcSoft Photo Studio 2000.
But after they get to ME they won’t open in Photo Studio or in Paint.

These TIF’s will open in ME using the Imaging program, and Imaging
Properties there show LZW compression? I don’t know what that is or where it
comes from?

Bmp’s, Jpeg’s & Gif’s drag & drop from XP to ME and work just like they are
supposed to. Problem seems to occur only when I move TIF’s.

Hello Linus,

Looks like a Photo Studio problem then. The TIF files open in Windows ME
using the Imaging program but don't open in Photo Studio. I looked on their
support site before I posted last time but didn't see any mention of this
issue. I would suggest contacting them to see if they've heard about this
problem.

You said that they don't open in MSPaint either so that would indicate a
problem with Paint as well so it's just not Photo Studio. I was unable to
find any mention of this problem in the Microsoft Knowledgebase.

Thanks,
