I just loaded Excel 2000 onto my computer. I have Windows
98. I can open Excel but when I try to open my expense
statement from my A: drive I receive this message.
<File name> cannot be accessed. The file may be read only
or you may be trying to access a read only location. Or,
the server the document is stored on may not be responding.
I know it is not my disc because I have recently opened it
on another pc. I am not sure what the problem is but
would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Christy,

You should NEVER work with Excel directly off of a floppy.
Always copy the file to the Hard Disk before opening. You can
move it back to floppy after you save it to the hard disk.
Using the floppy to access and work on your files can result
in corruption of the files (which is what may have happened
in your case).

John,
I tried to copy the file to my hard drive without
success. It started to copy and then stopped and gave me
this error message. "Cannot copy <file>. The system cannot
read from specified device." Do you think this could be a
problem with my A: drive? As I previously stated, I
opened the file from the floppy disk on another pc without
a problem. Thanks for your help.
Christy
