I have been working on an excel file. I saved it onto a USB
flash memory stick, then saved from the memory stick onto a
computer hard drive.

Now...both the memory stick original file and the hard
drive file can't be opened.

It gives a message of something like -
'Can't access file, maybe read-only protected or the drive
may be read only. then something about the server may be
not responding'.

I have tried: Pasting the file to a different location -
same response. I have tried re-naming the file - same
response. I have checked the properties of the file and the
read-only box is not checked (even if it were, it should
let me open it in a read-only format).

Any ideas???? Please Help.... Thxs!!!

These issues used to occur in the good old days of floppy disks..(remember
those?). I suspect the file got corrupted while being loaded onto the USB
stick.

You could try loading it with Excel XP or 2003 (If that's not the version
you have) or you could try typing Excel file recovery into Google and paying
someone to get it open. (You may find a trial version out there too)

Did you move the file onto the USB rather than copy? Moral copy, try the
file in the new location and then delete from original machine
