I'm trying to network two PCs, one running 2000 and one
running XP but can't make them "talk." I tried using the
XP network setup wizard, but to my suprise, it's only
compatible with Windows 95,98,ME, and XP? What gives? Why
can't XP and 2000 just be friendly cousins?

If you are just running the two computers try setting them up in the same workgroup. Then under My Network Places you should see your workgroup and both computers. You may have to share your c: drive.

It is just two computers, and I set them both to the same
workgroup and still no success. I've tried sharing
different folders and files and none of them show up in
my network places. Also does anybody know why XP's home
network wizard doesn't work with Windows 2000>

Don't use the wizard! There are many websites that describe in-depth how to
setup home networks, just google your way to one of them.

Also:
- make sure the XP box doesn't have personal firewall enabled
- make sure you have setup same useraccounts/passwords on both pcs
- enable file and printer sharing if not already (tcp/ip properties)
- same workgroup name on both pcs
- create shares and assign permissions to those shares to the account/group
you want to login with. Also check your NTFS permissions
- double-check tcp/ip settings, same subnet, different ips, etc.. Can each
pc ping each other by IP? by name?
- how are they connected? cross-over cable? router? got link lights on
the nics?

good luck!

Had the same problem

The problem was firewall. Shut ALL firewall down.

I had my Zone Alarm on, that was causing the problem.
