Problem Naming External Drive

I just installed a new internal hard drive and partitioned it "C" and
"D." My former small internal drive had only a "C" partition. This
automatically renamed my CD and DVD drives from their former "D" and
"E" to "E" and "F". So far, so good. However, I have a Maxtor USB2
external hard drive that was formerly drive F. Apparently because of
the conflict with the DVD drive now being named "F", the computer will
not mount the USB2 drive (although it shows up in the Device Manager
as working properly). I assume I somehow need to access the drive and
rename it? If so, how do I do this if the drive won't mount in the
first place?

It seems odd the CD and DVD drives would automatically rename
themselves, but the USB2 hard drive wouldn't. Any help would be
appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Just reletter the current "F" drive (the DVD player?). Start/run
diskmgmt.msc, right click the DVD drive and use the option to change the
drive letter.
