Problem naming a range

I am using Excel XP.

I am trying to name a range of cells.
I select the cells I want and then try to enter the name in the box.
It accepts the name but when I press enter the name disappears and does not
appear in the drop-down of the list of ranges.

What am I doing wrong?

What name are you using? There are some restrictions, that you can find
in Excel' Help, under the heading 'About labels and names in formulas'

For example, the name must be one word, and start with a letter or
underscore.

What name are you using?

Does it conflict with anything else?
Does it look like an address? (A32)
Is it valid? (although I got errors when I typed something invalid)

Just realised what the problem is.

The worksheet is protected!!!

Stupid!!!

Sorry for that.
