Hello all.

I have installed a new DC in a client's domain, and I want
it to take over all the master roles. When I changed the
Operation roles to the new box, I could no longer open or
edit domain security policies (both domain-wide and DC
policies)0. Additionally, when editing GPOs in ADUC, it
cannot locate them unless I tell it to use any available
DC. Ideas? Thanks in advance.

This could occur if you are having file replicaiton problems. When you open
the policy editor it attempts to contact the PDC emulator so that the policy
changes can be made on it. If it does not have a sysvol share then it will
fail to respond and then give you the option to use another DC. Perhaps
that is what you are experiencing. Verify that all DCs have a sysvol share
and netlogon share. Check the FRS logs for errors. Run dcdiag.exe on all
DCs and look for errors. Post any errors that you find in the newsgroup. If
you are having FRS problems then you should post the errors in
microsoft.public.windows.server.dfs_frs

Thanks, Tim.

After I sent the post, I looked at the FRS logs with
plenty of errors. It hasn't completed even once, so the
shares don't exist on the new DC yet. Looks like I'm
headed to dfs_frs.
