Hi everybody,

A friend of mine has a strange problem on his computer that I did not manage
to solve. He has had for a long time now a printer Epson Stylus Color 440
linked to the PC via a LPT wire (no USB on this "old" printer). It works
perfectly, EXCEPT when he installs the "Nikon View" software provided with
his new camera. The symptom is the printing starts, and stops after 3 or 4
lines. The computer is more or less freezed until the printer is turned off.
Crazy, isn't it?

When he uninstalls the Nikon View software, it works again and prints full
documents. So I tried :

- to upgrade the Nikon View software to the latest version (6.0 or something
like that)
- to take the latest drivers for his printer on the Epson site
- to change as many settings as I could in the properties of the LPT port
(IRQ, DMA and so on)
- to uninstall and install again and again the printer...

No success. If anybody has an idea, please tell me ! Many thanks to you,

MALESCOT.

The easy answer is not use Nikon View then. There are other programs that
do what that program does.

Take Nikonview out of the Startup group. Run it manually only when you want
to download pictures from the camera. I would suggest an external Compact
Flash card reader except that the ones I have had have never worked
properly.

Thank you the 2 of you. I'll try taking it out of the startup group, anf if
it doesn't solve the problem, I'll make my friend use another picture
program.

Try going into the BIOS and changing the Lpt port settings. You will have
standard, ECP, and EPP. Try either or both of the options that you are
currently NOT using. My bet is that one of them will work. As I recall that
solved the problem for me with NikonView and LPT1. With standard setting the
ink monitor may not work, though.
