I have both win 98 and XP Pro installed on my computer.
Since yesterday, whenever I try to load XP, I get this
error message : Windows XP could not start because the
following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
\CONFIG\SYSTEM

I have loaded win 98 instead, and went into windows
explorer, and cannot find this file anywhere (I figured
it's a bad sign)
From then on, I have searched and searched, tried to use
the recovery tool, but I don't have an ASR disk, and when
to follow the step found in article 307545, I get "access
denied" when I enter the first command.

At this point, I don't know what to do to solve that
problem. How can I re-install or repair that missing file?

thanks for any help

A "repair install" will likely be required.
