When trying to load windows back into my laptop I get the following message
"Line 9841 of INF file is invalid, setup can not continue"
Any idea what this means and how I can sort it?

thanks

How are you installing? To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000
install CD-Rom or setup disks. The set of four install disks can be created
from your Windows 2000 CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the
CD-Rom and execute makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and
follow the prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

I deleted all partitions. did "fdisk" created new ones from scratch.
formated C drive using "format c:\v". when rebooting then I get the Line
9841 in INF file invalid.

Try letting Windows create the partition for you. Also best to boot the
CD-Rom

mean I should delet the partition and the boot from the cd?

Yes, you can delete, create partitions during Windows 2000 setup.

tried and still gives me "Line 9841 in INF file invalid".what if this INF
file and why my machine has trouble reading it?

Sounds like you're running an unattended install. Try a new set of floppies.
The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000 CD-Rom;
change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute makeboot.exe
(from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the prompts.

created the disks from makebt32.exe, it new says "File \ntkrnlmp.exe could
not be loaded. The Error code is 7"

Is this a dual processor mb? Your mb and or bios version may not be Windows
2000 compliant.

It is single processor. The only thing I can say is that this is a 2nd hand
machine that has been decommissioned after 3 years of life and it didn't
previously have standard Win2000 on it.
