I wonder if someone could help me....

When I double click My Computer or My Documents, the window pops up, but
remains blank for a few seconds (varying between 1 and about 20, though
normally nearer to 20). I can still move the mouse, but can't click
anything or change to another task. explorer.exe uses up 100% CPU for this
time.

Any ideas that I could try in order to resolve this? It's really annoying
to have to wait 20 secs every time you want to access Windows Explorer.

Am using XP Pro, and I'm sure I haven't always had this problem.

Thanks in advance.

How much RAM do you have? Look in task manager in
performance tab at the total commit charge amount, is it
equal to or greater than your RAM? If it is even close
you need to install more memory..

Do you mean free or total RAM? Total RAM is 392000K (384MB), with 170000K
available. Total Commit Charge is 175000K.

The thing is, it has only started doing it recently. I've carried out a
number of Windows XP tweaks, like disabling unused services (to free
memory), and changing a few settings in Windows Explorer, like turning off
Indexing Service etc. But I made sure I didn't change anything that
sounded important. Still, maybe I altered something that has caused this.
