Problem listenin to music on headphones if laptop is docked??

I have a dell laptop on a docking station. When I try to plug in headphones
into either the docking station or into laptop sound does not go to
headphones but comes from laptop. Any suggestions??
 
Plug your headphones into the speaker jack on the back of the laptop,
but do this while not docked. Also recommend you use the AC power
card and not the battery.
