Problem joining domain with Win 2k Pro

On a workstation rebuild the system appears to join the
domain successfully and allows domain accounts to log on
to the workstation for a short period of time. Then after
a few hours and numerous 3034 MrxSmb errors in the system
log, domain accounts can no longer log on to the
workstation. Also, I can't seem to find any indication on
the domain controllers that the system ever joined the
domain.

Is this a workstation build problem or an active directory
problem?

How are you "rebuilding" these machines? Does the problem happen you
perform a clean install and join the domain?

Are there machines with duplicate names on the network?

Also, try resetting the secure channel to see if that resolves the problem.

The problem does not occur on clean builds. It only
occurs on rebuilt machines that re-use the same name. The
workstations are wiped clean and "ghosted".

We don't support replacing machines using disk imaging software in this
fashion. You need to use sysprep in combination with your imaging software
to replace machines.

When you rebuild machines and use third-party disk imaging software like
Ghost or Drive Image make sure you follow the steps outlined in the
following article:
