I am trying to install Windows XP on a machine that has
been using Windows 98 SE. Someone convinced me not to do
the "upgrade," but to install XP fresh.

Now the new Windows opening screen appears with the little
flag, and below the flag there is a bar with three dots in
it that move from left to right. The dots move through
twice, but on the third pass they stop, and nothing moves.
No cursor, no CTL/ALT/DEL, nothing.

I tried one of the Safe Mode procedures and got a screen
full of messages ending in System/drivers/*. The last one
in the list is system/drivers/mup.sys.

I recently installed a USB 2.0 card, so that I could use a
recently installed CD burner. I disconnected the burner
and the printer, but now I can't re-install the program
because I can't even get it to read my Windows XP CD.
Help!

You need to make sure on b00t up that you have the
motherboard set to boot of the cdrom it is in the bios
under advanced options.

good luck
