Problem Installing the Update

I downloaded BCM into MS Office Professional/Outlook 2003 some time ago to
explore it's possible use. I didn't get very far. I got sidetracked and
never came back until a few weeks ago when my interest was rekindled. I
attempted to download the latest update to BCM but it won't install. My
error log bears this message:

Error Faulting application businesscontactmanager-kb83988
1-fullfile-enu.exe, version 5.0.2920.0, faulting module kmw_dll.dll, version
6.11.4.1, fault address 0x00002fc8.

Reading the forum here, I picked up on another log that gave me a
clue to what's happening.... though I don't know how to diagnose it further.
The line from the logs that I think are significant are:

2005-06-02 23:22:18 - ? [131] SQLAgent$MICROSOFTBCM service stopping due to
a stop request from a user, process, or the OS...

2006-03-22 16:05:58.29 server SQL Server terminating because of system
shutdown.

I'm not shutting down any system. I'm not configured to another server that
I'm aware of and I don't think I have to be in order to run BCM do I? I have
a home network of three machines but only the XP machine runs this version
of Outlook where BCM resides.

Have I given sufficient information to receive direction from here in
resolving this inability to download the update?

Hi John

The Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager Service Pack 1 that you
mentioned is for BCM V1 which is a prior version try updating to V2 from the
link i provided and see if it helps.

I wish I had made note of the area where I got those error message. I can't
find it. I picked it up on this forum. My Error Log from my Dell "Help and
Support Center" screen gives me this entry:

Faulting application businesscontactmanager-kb83988 1-fullfile-enu.exe,
version 5.0.2920.0, faulting module kmw_dll.dll, version 6.11.4.1, fault
address 0x00002fc8

This isn't the area from which I got the error messages I left earlier. I
recall looking at a file with Explore and opening it with Notepad.

When I go to the MS Office Update page after the site scans for the need
for updates
http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/maincatalog.aspx?lc=en-us
I'm always left with this item:

Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager Service Pack 1

This update must be installed on its own.
0 KB / Already Downloaded

0 KB / Download Time = 0 min at your connection speed

I get an error every time I try to download this. But look at the
"Download Size". It's listed as "O KB" with a Download Time of "O min". Is
this the same thing you suggest I try with the link you gave? Is that
where the above selection is supposed to be taking me? Why isn't it doing
so?

Hi Raul,

I took your advice and downloaded that update. It appears as though it
removed the entire Outlook 2003 program then installed Outlook 2003 with BCM
Update. It took awhile. After all settle down and I browsed the recommended
introduction (Whew. Lots there!) I ran the MS Office check for updates. That
Service Pack 1 was still there. I gambled and assumed the program knew what
it was doing so I let 'er rip. It installed the update without a glitch and
the program appears to be running fine. I think that SP1 was for the Update
rather than for version 1. Is that possible? If it's for V1 only and I've
got V2 installed, SP1 would be rejected wouldn't it?

Hi John

There is also a SP1 for BCM V2 so i assume would have been the one it listed
after you ran the updates. Also when you install BCM V2 it list itself in add
/remove programs as Outlook 2003 with BCM update ,if does not overwrite
OL2003 program.Try going to add /remove programs and and you will see
another entry called Microsoft Office 2003 that houses Outlook,Word etc .

Hope this helps

You're right, Raul. It's there; both of them. Does this mean I would be able
to simply remove BCM without disturbing Outlook 2003?

I've already move a significant number of files from "Contacts" to "Business
Contacts in Business Contact Manager". When I did, I lost the "Journal"
entries that were associated with those records. Somewhere among those pages
of instruction there's probably one that will tell me how I can recoup those
Journal entries.
