Problem installing PhotoFinish

Hi,

I have installed PhotoFinish. This is an old graphics program that was
created by Zsoft. The Corel Corp. bought out Zsoft.

When I attempt to open PhotoFinish I get the message, "ZSOFT381.DRV not
found or not enough memory". I have put the .drv file in the main
PhotoFinish folder but it still won't open.

I have read that this .drv file wants to communicate directly with the video
adapter.

If this is so, is there a fix for this problem?

Thanks,

Smoker

No, sorry. XP will not permit a program to communicate directly with the
hardware. You'll need to either find some program that does what you want
and is designed for XP or install Virtual PC or VMWare and create a virtual
machine running whatever OS PhotoFinish needs such as Win9x.

Malke,

Since I am not familiar with either of these programs I have some questions?
What will either of these programs produce? Will it be compatable with XP?
Can it exist on the same computer that has an XP system? Are either of
these programs certain to solve my problem?

Thanks again,

Virtual PC and VMWare are programs that allow you to create virtual
machines. You can then install whatever operating system is supported (and
for which you have a license if required) on the virtual machine. For
instance, one of my XP machines runs Virtual PC and I have virtual machines
running DOS 6.22, Win3.1, Win95, Win98, and OS/2. Do some reading here:

http://www.vmware.com/
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/default.mspx

Depending on how much effort you want to put into this, it might be easier
to simply find a program that does what you want. I don't know what
PhotoFinish does, but if you are just looking for a free image/photo
management program Picasa is quite nice.

Malke,

I went to both sites and Microsoft allows you to download Virtual PC for
free. I don't understand that ---I thought that Virtual PC was about
$150.00. I cant see Microsoft giving their software away. Do you know if
there is a catch? Do you download the software and have to pay more to make
it run properly?

Sorry for all the questions - I am not familiar with how everything works
with this type of program.

Thanks,

No, there is no catch. VPC is free. Read the information at the website(s) I
gave you for more information. The newsgroup for VPC is:

microsoft.public.virtualpc

Spend some time looking over past posts in Google Groups Advanced Search.

Seems like a big bother just to run a program that's probably goin on 15
years old.
