I have been running antispyware beta 1 on Windows 2000 SP4 and beyond without
any installation or running problems. Today I uninstalled beta 1 and tried
to install Beta 2 aka Defender and received the following error message 'This
software requires GDI+. Please load Windows 2000 Security Siftware
Prerequisite Pack'. I installed every EXPRESS and CUSTOM update MS Windows
Update service along with all security hotfixes and my problem remains.
Whats the problem and how do i get BETA 2 loaded on my machine

Just click on the link below and download the
gdiplus_dnld.exe file. It is a self-extracting file: unzip it in your
WINNT\SYSTEM32 (the path depends on your system configuration) dir and then
run the Windows Defender installation MSI. If the link doesn't work, look for
"Platform SDK Redistributable: GDI+" at the Microsoft Download Center. NOTE:
Windows Validation Required for downloading the file.

Anyway, if you look for "requires GDI+" on the Installation Discussions
forum you'll find every answer you need. Otherwise, just click on theredirect
link below..

enjoy :D

many thanks, i managed to download the gdiplus file and instal it and the MS
Defender ok.

I now have a new problem error message when running a FULL Scan
'msmpeng.exe-no disk. There is no idisk in the drive. Please insert a disk
into Drive A: Cancel/ Try Again/ Continue' .

I don t know why Defender activates this exe program or how to stop it. The
message box refuses to close when i press any of the Cancel/Try
Again/Continue buttons . Only hapens on Full scan. Quick scan appears to
work ok.

Any ideas or solutionsns??

Hmm.. ..don't know, I've never heard about that. I've found it on the Windows
Defender installation directory and it still runs on background so I guess
it's a defender security service or something to intercept and remove
spywares. You should try to restart Windows and see if the problem still
exist.. If it does, just don't care about it:
1 - open Windows Defender
2 - click on the arrow behind the "San" option
3 - select "Custom scan"
4 - push on the "Select" button and tick the drives you wanna scan
5 - run the scan!
It should works (I hope..).
Otherwise again.. ..hmm.. ..put a floppy inside the drive and run the scan
(lol) or wait for a newer version of Defender :D

This is a bug. I've seen it myself and don't have a fix.

So far, I've only heard of it happening on Windows 2000 systems.

My workarounc is to put a floppy in the drive.
